Program Overview

18 months at a part-time schedule of approximately 21 hours a week.

​

On Mondays, the salon is closed to the public for the students to have a classroom day of teaching. Monday classes can be anywhere from 10 am-5 pm. Mondays are the day for book work and testing, lectures and demonstrations, any hands-on procedures, cutting/color classes, and models will be utilized.

Tuesdays through Saturdays are days when the salon is in full operation and the interns will learn by assisting specific designers, observing designers, having one-on-one experiences with salon clients, and doing various tasks to maintain the salon in its high-paced business atmosphere. (Approximately 15 hours, not including Monday hours)

After the students have completed all of their cutting/color/chemical classes, they will be placed behind the chair in small shifts during the week when the salon is open. While behind the chair, they will perform services on clients for the remaining time of their program in conjunction with assisting designers and their other previous responsibilities. Students are allowed to receive tips.

The Onyx Program “Difference”

As an intern at Onyx Premiere Hair Studio, you will undergo an intensive, sophisticated, and comprehensive training derived from the United States RUSK Designer Training Program. This curriculum is mixed in with the Milady Standard Cosmetology Course necessary for State Board Testing. Few companies have had a greater impact on the art and technique of hair cutting than RUSK. Rusk’s cutting techniques and design vision have set beauty industry standards and they constantly continue to break new ground.

Onyx Premiere Hair Studio is proudly the home of a former Rusk Educator, which is the director of the program. In addition to the Milady Standard Training and Rusk training, you will also be taught business strategies and goal setting. You will be fully equipped to be entirely successful in this industry.
